Love at first sight

May 18 2004

We found Lina at the pet shelter in Amsterdam called The Polderweg. After a few weeks of looking at the dogs there, and even toying with the idea of adopting a Jack Russel Terror, she was suddenly available and the staff thought we would fit well together. Doug fell in love with her right away, while Ivonne was still looking for a chocolate brown dog - no reason really. Originally, her name was Xena, but we changed it to Lina, it fits her a lot better, and she doesn't even know the difference!

We will be totally honest, Lina is a mutt. We are guessing a bit but she is somewhere between a miniature Belgian Shepherd and some terrier or pinscher. At two years old, she is still young and very playful. Her birthday is the 2nd of February 2003.

Lina obviously had some training before we got her - in fact she responds to many Dutch commands, we found out. She learns fast, in any case, though her learning is also a bit selective.

Lina joins us on our adventures around Amsterdam. She is fearless, loves to take car trips, even though she feels a little car sick. She gets over it by diving underneath the seats and staying there until we arrive.

And of course our adventures in Italy are even better. City or country, we take her with us just about everywhere. We have a special trailer to pull her behind the bikes, but she prefers to do the pulling!

All that travel gives a dog an appetite - of course everything gives Lina an appetite.

New pictures: SNOW!

And just for good measure a movie:
